woolie wonders: hisano takei
Thursday, February 21, 2008
behold the whimsical, woolie world of hisano takei. i've had this artist bookmarked for so long, i nearly forgot about her! perfect timing for my rediscovery, she's just added some wonderful new work to her online gallery - you simply must go see. i love felted wool as a medium, it's so versatile and fun to work with. although i know from personal experience, the making of it can be very labor-intensive (and wet!). the pieces by hisano takei manage to transcend the labor and communicate pure joy. this time of year, we all need a bit more joy, i am certain.
they look like what i imagine a collection designed by dr. suess might be. perhaps wedding jewelry for the lorax?

have fun diving into all the wonders of her collection here.

wow, necklace is so imaganative! so cool to see a medium not usually used for jewelery.
Ohhh I love felt too! I've been thinking of playing around with more sculptural stuff like jewellery for fun. Might do some this weekend.
Cheers

Fascinating works!I have liked very much the felt work of a self taught Estonian; In general Estonians have always seemed to me extremely creative. She also uses other more traditional techniques and although I have noticed lately that her blog is less and less about her own crafts, I would recommend you to take a look! If you surf around you will be specially surprised about the free style crochet. She writes in Estonian and in English sometimes, but mostly everything is documented with pictures! www.heegeldab.blogspot.com
