My name is Tay MacIntyre and I started this blog in January, 2007. I’m an artist with a fine art degree and newly launched jewelry line. My home and studio are in Portland, Oregon. I share my life with a 12-year-old little dog, named Mia. I've been slowly and steadily working towards quitting my two jobs and supporting myself with my jewelry business. In October, 2007 I got a business loan and took the plunge, leaving my day job and going into my studio nearly full time. It's an exciting, sometimes nail biting ride and I'm thrilled to be at the wheel.

This blog space is about charting my creative process and my struggle to make a life I love that is fully mine. It's also about inspiration and observations of beauty. I find inspiration in the simplest things: vintage kitchen utensils, all manner of flora and fauna, films, poetry and music. As a kid I was a daydreamer and as an adult, I’ve found a way to make that useful.tayjuly07.jpg

My ideas often germinate for long periods of time and then in a flash ~zap~ they come to life. I’ve loved the same things since I was small: seedpods and secret places, mounds of velvety moss and containers, stories and satin finish surfaces. As an adult, of course, there are a few things I am more keen on (mushrooms) and less fond of (opossums) but that is to be expected.

What remains unchanged in several decades is a genuine, intense curiosity about the natural realm. It’s the lens I view the world from, the place I make art from and the source of inspiration for this blog. Sometimes I find amazing objects on the web and wonderful found object jewelry made by other artists and I will share those as well.

I use a Fuji finepix e550 camera and natural light when available for all my pictures. This blog and my website I set up myself on a shoestring budget using hosting sites with flexible formatting options.
